In November 2008 St Matthews launched its link with St Johns Chiia in the Niassa province of Northern Mozambique. This followed a mission trip to Mozambique undertaken by St Matthews curate Tim McGowan in September 08. He went with a group of Christians mainly made up of people from the Anglican church of Christ Church Kenilworth in Cape Town South Africa.

This is often polluted with a parasite which causes bilharzia a disease which is common along the lake shore. Digging wells reduce bilharzia.
